Labour promises an extra £89 million to boost cycling and walking.

Labour is to pledge £300million to end Britain’s “pothole crisis”. Shadow Transport Secretary Michael Dugher says the money will fix an additional six million potholes on the country’s battered roads.

Labour has also promised an extra £89 million to boost cycling and walking – on top of £400 million already pledged by the Coalition.

Funding for roads was cut by 11% in real terms under the last Government, leaving 2,262 roads in need of urgent maintenance work. A recent report by the National Audit Office found only 30% of drivers were happy with the state of local roads because of the number of potholes.
