Labour's Plan For Britain's Future

future plan

The choice at the general election will be between the Tories’ plan which is working just for a few, or Labour's plan for everyday working people.

"We’ve had almost five years of the Tories’ so-called plan, and it’s failed for working people with a recovery that works just for a few. This conference will see Labour setting out a new plan for Britain’s future, a plan that works for ordinary families, rewarding the hard work they do and saving the NHS they rely on."

People want change
It’s no wonder people from Perth to Penzance want to see change. Too many are treading water, working harder and harder just to stay afloat, and worried that the next generation are finding it harder to get on than the last.
The choice is between the Tories’ failing plan…
Under the Tories everyday working people have made big sacrifices, but in this recovery they are not seeing the rewards for their hard work. The Tories’ failing plan has meant the recovery is benefiting a privileged few far more than most families and our NHS is going backwards.
…or Labour’s new plan for Britain’s future
The last few months have been about keeping our country together. Now we need to change our country together. This conference will see Labour setting out a new plan for Britain’s future. A new plan not just to clear the deficit but to build a better future for ordinary families, to save our NHS and turn decisively away from a Tory government run for the few.
Everyday working people have made big sacrifices but in this recovery they are not seeing the improvements in living standards they have every right to expect…
  • Working people are an average of £1,600 a year worse off under this Government
…and the next generation are finding it harder to get on than the last
  • The average age of first time buyers has now reached 33.
Under the Tories’ failing plan the recovery is benefiting a privileged few far more than most families…
  • David Cameron has cut tax for people on over £150,000 a year while raising it for everyone else.
  • Energy companies have been allowed to hike bills by more than £300 whilst making record profits.
and our NHS is going backwards with people struggling to see their GP and waiting lists rising.
  • It’s harder to see your family doctor. 60 per cent of patients say they waited at least two days to see a GP.
  • Waiting lists for treatment are at their highest level for six years.
The last few months have been about keeping our country together...
  • Labour led the argument for the United Kingdom with Alistair Darling and Gordon Brown.
  • One Nation Labour is the only party represented across Britain – the only party that can bring us back together.
…now we need to change our country together. This conference will see Labour setting out a new plan, not just to clear the deficit…
  • In tougher times, we will make tougher choices on spending.  We will scrap winter-fuel payments for the wealthiest pensioners.
  • Our plans for day-to-day spending do not involve any additional borrowing.
… but to reward hard work, strengthen the recovery, make sure it works for everyday working families…
  • Freeze gas and electricity bills until 2017 and reform the energy market.
  • Make work pay by raising the minimum wage.
  • Ban exploitative zero hour contracts.
  • Get 200,000 homes built a year by 2020 and end letting fee rip-offs.
  • Help working parents with 25 hours of free childcare for 3 and 4 year-olds.
… and save the NHS, giving staff the time to care for patients
  • Ensure better access, guaranteeing GP appointments in 48 hours.
  • Cut the waste the Tories have introduced through privatisation and competition.
